Prairie Baseball Academy - CCBC Champions For 2006 17 May 2006
The CCBC Championship Tournament that was hosted by Thompson Rivers University was an outstanding success.  Almost all of the games were battles with the very close games and great competition.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - Thompson Rivers vs Prairie Baseball Academy

The Championship game of the tournament started in the same fashion as all of the preliminary games.  PBA scored one run in the second inning as the Dawgs Aaron Johnson started the inning with a base hit, Garrett Regan moving him over with a 4-3, then Chris Copot getting him home with another base hit.  In the third inning, Thompson Rivers Frank Ingram started the inning by walking the leadoff.  The Dawgs Ryan McDonald then started a streak of hitting with a home run scoring two.  Jacob Yousif and Clayton Howell followed with singles, Johnson with a SAC, another walk, then another single for Mike Scott drove in two more runs.  With two out and two on, Scott Price unloaded another shot out of the park to drive in three more runs.  At the end of three, it was TRU 0 - PBA 8.  In the fourth, Yousif and Howell started with singles again.  This time it was Johnson's turn to hit one out and drive in another 3 runs.  After four, it was TRU - PBA 11.

The Dawgs Andrew Maclean did an excellent job of keep the Thompson Rivers hitters off the diamond with 3 K's, two walks, and only 4 hits in 7 innings of work.

Game 7 - Thompson Rivers vs U of Calgary

Another pitching duel with Thompson Rivers Matt Bannister keeping the Calgary Dinos to only a couple of hits with 8 Ks.  TRU score on in the 3rd after Alex Ponich got on with a error, then stole second and third. Anthony Cross then had an RBI single.  The Dinos score one in the top of the sixth to tie the game after Brent Hamel got on with a lead off walk, and scored on a RBI single by Steve Leishman.

In the bottom of the sixth, TRU's starting the inning by getting plunked, Cody Halleran, Brandon Legard, and Brandon Hunter followed with three singles to score 2 runs and make the score Dinos 1 - Wolfpack 3 after 6.

Game 6 - PBA vs Thompson Rivers - both undefeated.

Thompson Rivers started the third inning with a single by Alex Ponich.  He stole second, the scored by an RBI double by Anthony Cros.  Thompson Rivers added another run in the fourth, by the same two players doing exactly the same thing, Ponich hitting a single followed by Cros hitting an RBI double.  Score after 4 - PBA 0 - TRU 2.

In the fifth inning, TRU helped the Dawgs by walking three to load the bases. Mike Scott was hit and got an RBI the easy way.  Chris Copot followed with a single that scored two.  Scott Price followed with a double that scored another two, then MIles Walker with a single that score another two.  After five - TRU 2 - PBA 7.

TRU scored on in the 6th after Torrie Watters and Ponich got on with singles and Cros drove Watters in on a fielder's choice.

TRU continued their comeback in the 7th with Brandon Legard, Brandon Hunter getting on with singles, and Tanner Brotzel driving them in with a double.  They continued to come back with a single by Duaine Bowles and a walk by Ponich, but a Dawgs double play ended the game and dropped TRU to the bottom half.
