Congratulations to the Okanagan Athletics, new BCPBL champions, having defeated the North Shore Twins 9-7 in the 2012 BCPBL Final 4 Provincial Championship final.
Here are the championship game scoring plays;
Top of 3 - Athletics' RF Brandon Sonnenberg knocked in the first 2 runs in the 3rd with a triple. He scored on Nolan Handley's sac fly. (Athletics 3 Twins 0) Bottom of 3 - Twins' LF Griff Goyer hit a solo home run and then Louis Boyd's double drove home a second run (Athletics 3 Twins 2) Top of 4 - Bases loaded walk to James Ward scores a run. Josh Croft's double knocked in 2 more runs. Ward scores on infield out. (Athletics 7 Twins 2) Bottom of 5 - A's pitching change after two walks. Robbey Panico and Boyd each knock in runs with infield outs. (Athletics 7 Twins 4) Top of 6 - A's Sonnenberg knocks in his 4th run of the day with a single. Croft scores on an error. (Athletics 9 Twins 4) Bottom of 6 - With the bases loaded the Twins scored 3 runs on a walk, hit by pitch and sac fly. (Athletics 9 Twins 7)
Sat Aug 4 8.30pm - Okanagan 4 Nanaimo 1 - Athletics' Josh Croft hit a 2-run homer in the 5th and starter and winning pitcher RHP Clinton Heidebrecht went 5 innings giving up just a single unearned run.
Sat Aug 4 5.30pm - North Shore 11 Coquitlam 5 - Twins 3B Lachan Fontaine started the game off with a 3-run homer in the top of the 1st, knocked in a run with a sac fly in the 3rd and added another 3-run blast in the 4th. That's all North Shore needed to advance to Sunday's championship final. In the first Twins game of the day, Fontaine hit a grandslam. What a day!
Sat Aug 4 3.00pm - Coquitlam 9 Nanaimo 1 - Reds starter and winning pitcher RHP Austin MacDonald worked his way out a jam in the 1st when the first three Pirate batters singled to load the bases but a double play and groundout ended the early threat. Austin allowed just a single run in 6 innings. Reds broke the game open in the 4th when Max Hollingworth hit a 3-run homer and Michael Jackman followed with his 2nd home run of the game. Jackman went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Sat Aug 4 12.30pm - North Shore 7 Okanagan 6 - 3B Lachan Fontaine hit a grandslam in the 4th inning to lead the Twins to 7-4 win. Louis Boyd added a two-run double and Robbey Panico went 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs. Starter Jordan Kellof went 4 2/3 innings and picked up the win. In the bottom of the 7th, Athletics' James Ward led off with a double. followed up with home run to put the A's within one run. Twins reliever RHP Adam Aichmair came in and got the next two outs, allowed a single and then got the final out for the Save. For the Athletics, Josh Croft went 3 for 4, Morgan Lofstrom had two hits including a solo homerun and Dawson Yates went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Fri Aug 3 8.30pm - North Shore 8 Nanaimo 4 - Twins' catcher Riley MacDonald knocked in 5 runs with a grandslam, double, a sac and a HBP. Clark Grisbrook went 3 for 4. For the Pirates, Brady Rogers went 2 for 2 with home run and a double knocking in 2 runs and scoring 2. Twins pitcher Kyle Olver pitched a complete game to get the win.
Fri Aug 3 5.30pm - Okanagan 13 Coquitlam 3 - A's 2B James Ward ended the game with a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 6th to invoke the mercy rule. Ward went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI, Dallas Senger went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Nathan Ackerman 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Brandon Sonnenberg knocked in 3 runs. Starter Dillon Kakoshke picked up the win. |
