Surrey...The Chiefs will run a Fall ball program at Whalley Ball Park starting Wed.August 31st at 6pm.This is the time to register in person.The program will run through mid October with app. 10-12 games planned with other PBL Teams and a Tournament in Yakima, Washington Sept. 23-4-5.
Workouts will be during the week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 9pm starting Sept.6.Games will be on the weekends.The Chiefs will have a staff of 6 qualified coaches and training people throughout the fall period.
The cost will be $199 which includes a Chiefs hat, a practice/game top, baseballs, shared hotel accommodation, utilities at Whalley and top instruction. The cost can be paid down by selling tickets for a West Jet promo...'Fly with the Chiefs'. The off season winter program details are just being worked on but count on Sport Starz and Cloverdale facilities as being used by the Chiefs. The 2010 season saw the Chiefs reach the final four for the second consecutive year; the 2011 Chiefs will be striving to make it three straight years. The Chiefs will field a veteran line up with 10 returning players from last year's club and along with some new additions the team is looking forward to a competitive campaign. Leading the 2011 Chiefs are returning seniors, catcher Brody Hawkins, 2010 PBL 1st All Conference catcher, 2010 Team BC; 1st baseman Mitch Dornblut, will be relied upon to drive in runs as will IF Ryan Pidhaichuk who will start on the left side of the infield; IF/C Dale Mar and OF/C Matt Doll; RHP Justin Pilgrim and Alex Dunbar and LHP's Caleb Lefebvre and Robert Kitasaka will see the majority of the starts this year. New seniors to the Chiefs this year include, RHP Jesse Biggs, RHP Nathan de la Feraudeand OF/RHP Declan Murphy. The only returning junior is OF Jordan Mccomb who will see most of his time in centerfield. New to the Chiefs as juniors this year are IF Brendan Dornblut; IF Brett Chase and OF/RHP John Stephen; all three are expected to compete for starting positions. Returning Sophomore Braeden Allemann, last year as a freshman Braeden step up and fill the roll as our utility player, this year he's challenging for a regular spot in the line up. New as a sophomore this year is IF Alex Hackney who will see time at second base. The coaching staff this year will look somewhat different from the past 23 years. Dennis Springenatic has stepedp down as head coach and has decided to pursue other interests, Coach John Parker is now head coach of our junior club; John will be making guest coaching appearance when available. Returning coaches from last year are Ernie "Hawk" Hawkins and Gord Kerr (strength and conditioning) New to the staff is Clayton Howell, Chief alumni and will see most of his time spent working with hitters and coaching third. Out of retirement is Ken Myette, Ken is well known throughout the PBL and Canada for his pitching knowledge. Ken has been working with our pitchers during off season and will continue throughout the season. Whalley Ball Park is one of the premiere parks in the province and the surface will be excellent shape this spring. The Chiefs have hired Cardinal Sports Management Group to assist the potential student athlete in achieving the most during the baseball recruiting process. For the Junior Chiefs , this will be developed over a 2-3 year process. Using key criteria, they can decide if an offer is best suited. CSM will assist in securing official and unofficial visits to post secondary institutions. CSM will complete a detailed academic review determining the student athlete's status regarding the NCAA Clearinghouse. CSM will conduct a 'Success on the SAT' seminar for those interested. And most important, CSM will develop an on line resume profile complete with all pertinent information for colleges. The Chiefs will run a fall program at Whalley Ball Park starting Tuesday August 31st at 6PM and run through the middle of October. Players between 13 and 18 are welcome to tryout. During the fall, practice will be Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursdays from 6-9pm and also over the weekends for home and away games.The schedule should include app. 15 games and 2 Tournaments. The Jim Wray Fall Classic is hosted at Whalley and also a Fall Tournament to the Yakima ,Wa. area is planned in early October. The Chiefs will have several coaches available over the fall, then our strenght and conditioning training staff head indoors at the Sport Starz Training facility in Surrey. They are a sponsor of the Junior Chiefs. Next season there will be a Junior Chiefs PBL team headed by John Parker and coached by Mike Addy, Randy Elrick and Keith Faure.They plan on heading to Alaska in July for a Tournament. Fall ball costs are $200 which includes quality instruction, game/practice jersey, a hat and shared accomodation in Yakima or Victoria depending on which team your on. The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds is pleased to announce that Adam Quan from the Fraser Valley Chiefs is the recipient of the annual scholarship awarded to the top graduating player from the BC Premier Baseball League. Adam is completing his fourth year with the Fraser Valley Chiefs baseball program and has maintained an academic average of 89% at Fraser Heights Secondary School. He will be entering the Human Kinetics program at UBC in the fall. Adam was also named “athlete of the year” at his high school in 2009. When making this announcement, Terry McKaig, head coach of the Thunderbirds noted, “We are excited to have Adam join the UBC Thunderbirds for this upcoming season. He is exactly what we look for in a player; an exceptional baseball player, and above average student in the classroom, and a role model off the field. His hard work, dedication, and desire to be the best will fit in well with our team. Adam is another player benefitting from the BCPBL award. A special thanks to Clyde Inouye, Ted Hotzak, and the entire league for their support of our program at UBC”. Congratulations to Adam and his family; mom, dad, two sisters and one brother who have supported him throughout his baseball. The Fraser Valley Chiefs coaching staff is also to be commended for the support, encouragement, and valuable instruction they have provided Adam over the past four years. |

Ryan Saunders (Fraser Valley Chiefs) and Jon Winick (North Delta Blue Jays) will leave this weekend to join their respective teams in the Alberta-based Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) before both move on to join the Bellhaven Blazers university team in Jackson, Mississippi in the fall.
