The 2009 Jr Cardinals are looking forward to another successful year in the league. Under Coaching staff of Brendon Osborn and Derek Florko. With 33 players coming out in the fall there was much excitement and talent. With getting in the weight room three times a week and in the show barn in the winter the Cardinals are stronger than ever. After a long winter the team went off to Florida to get a chance to play in the sun. Playing 6 Games and practicing every day the team worked on their skills and team bonding. The pitching staff for the 2009 consists of many of the players, as they bring skills of not only hitting but pitching. We have quality starters and many solid relief pitchers. In this year will be RHP Joel Lamont, Tyler Dobos, Mark Kleingeltink, Steven Federau and Ryan Martin, all of which will play in other positions as well. The relief pitchers will consist of RHP Brand Molnar, RHP Nic Sheehan and LHP Adam Balliet. Our outfield will consist of two way guys such as Tyler Krahn, and Max Chadsey. Up the middle you will see two returning players at SS the leader of the JR Cardinals Tyler Koslowsky and at second base Carson Williams. Handling the hot corner is another returning player Darcy Mullen and Austen Zorba. While over at First the left handed Jordan Plouffe. Behind the dish will be two very strong catcher Matt Dietzmann and Colin Currie. The Junior Cardinals have been working tremendously hard during the course of the off-season. They have just finished their 16-week stint with two personal trainers, twice a week, which has made a huge difference in some of our younger players. We have been training three times a week in our AG-REC building since January now, and are geared up for our upcoming season. We have 14 exhibition games scheduled before we get under way with 2008 campaign.
Our 40 game season will be accompanied by a Memorial Day Tournament in Lower Woodlands (Seattle) which is a World Series Qualifier. We will also attend the Can-Am Classic in Oliver and the Lynden Summer Classic down across the border. The Junior Cardinals have three returning players from last year and eleven newcomers. Our strong group of bantam players from last year will look to make an impact on our team right away. Our pitching staff will be led by the returnees of last year such as Robbie Brooks, Ryan Wernicke, and Jordan Dick. Added to our staff this year will be Matt Browne, a six foot two right-handed pitcher from Maple Ridge, and Luke Webster who was picked up by Ladner for the Bantam National Championships. Carter Sherban, a member of the Pacific Northwest Championship team will round out the staff with Brad Koenig and Darcy Mullen. Team BC member Bryan Aurthur, Jordan Dick, Jeff Boshman, and newcomer George Raymond will patrol the outfield this season. All signs show great instincts and above average speed in each of these players and will be one of our main strengths this season. Behind the dish is six foot one Matt Dieztmann and Carson Williams who will both share duties throughout the course of the year. Both have made big strides over the off-season and are working to be one of the better catching tandems in the league. Up the middle will be lead by Robbie Brooks, Darcee Mullen, and Tyler Koslowsky who will all share duties. Brad Koenig and Luke Webster will monitor third base and Ryan Wernicke and Carter Sherban will handle the duties at first. All four players can handle either corner and will be versatile throughout the course of the year. Our team is confident that through hard work, enthusiasm and commitment that we will make the playoffs and make a strong run for the provincial title.
