The 2012 Jr Tritons head into the spring with high expectations. Last season under first year bench boss Mike Bird, the Jr Tritons took the field as one of the youngest teams in the JPBL. This year, with 8 returning players from last year's club, and a batch of super talented players from the White Rock Bantam AAA program, the Jr. Tritons are looking to bigger and better things for the up and coming season. Head Coach Mike Bird will once again manage the squad. Pitching coach Joey McAuley will be returning in his 2nd year with the program His pitching program this off season had the players working twice a week all winter to improve their game. Ass't coach Ryan Drozdiak also returns for his 2nd year. His ability to fill any coaching role will be a huge asset to our team as he looks to make a bigger impact this season. Joining the Jr. Triton's coaching staff is hitting/catcher coach Dillon Okrane. Okrane is a former college and pro league player who brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Okrane will also help out with the senior team when needed. This year the 16U Tritons will have a very challenging schedule as well as entering into 3 tournaments: the Okanagan College Norm Caig Invitational in Kelowna, the GSL Summer Slam Tournament in Puget Sound, Washington and a huge test in the July Long Weekend Firecracker Tournament in Los Angeles. All this while in the midst of playing a 44 game league schedule against the JPBL. This is how we feel the Jr Tritons will project this season; Catchers: Our 2 main catchers will be Dylan Yeager and Eric Fawcett. Yeager comes from the White Rock Bantam AAA team while Fawcett joins us after a successful season with the Abbotsford Bantam AAA team. 2 returning players, Liam Rihela and Griffin Hebert, will also see some time behind the plate, as their secondary positions. Infielders: Our infield is loaded with returning players as well as some very good Bantam grads. Brayden Bouchey, Liam Shibata, and Liam Rihela return from last year's squad and can play any of the infeld positions. Returning player Taylor Bedwell has vastly improved his game at the hot corner. Returning player Griffin Hebert and Bantam AAA grad Zach Campagne will man 1st base. Returning player Lucas Ramsden can also fill in to the infield when not on the mound of in the OF. Bantam AAA grads Daniel Cassino and Jake Gill are both solid slick infielders who are more than capable of playing any of the infield spots. 2 other new comers Joey Gladman and Ryoma Murata, can also play multiple infield spots.
Outfielders: The majority of the players on our roster are all capable of playing the OF but will mostly be filled by the following players: Returning players Scott Doucet, Kieran O'Connor and Lucas Ramsden all saw significant time in the OF last year and should be ready to take the next step. Bantam AAA grads James Pavelick, Campagne and Gill will also see lots of OF time. When not catching, Eric Fawcett will see some time in the OF. Richmond Bantam AAA grad Johnathan Cote will also be working hard for some playing time. He will without a doubt, push very hard for a spot.
Pitching: On the mound is where the Tritons plan to win ball games this year. With great depth, the team will rely heavily on our pitching staff. Returing players Scott Doucet, Lucas Ramsden, Brayden Bouchey and Liam Shibata all return a year older and hungry. All 4 will without a doubt, lead by example on the bump. White Rock Bantam grads Zach Campagne, Jake Gill, Ryoma Murata and Johnathan Cote all work extremely hard and looked great during winter workouts. Newcomer Joey Gladman took enormous strides in the off season and worked very hard on his mechanics and off speed stuff. |
