Abbotsford Cardinals Capture 2026 BCPBL Premier Provincial Championship
The Abbotsford Cardinals are the 2026 BCPBL Premier Provincial Champions after an incredible championship run through the double-knockout tournament, culminating with two must-win victories over the Victoria Eagles on Championship Sunday.
The Cardinals opened the tournament on Wednesday with a tightly contested 1-0 victory over the Delta Blue Jays before carrying that momentum into Thursday, where they defeated the defending champion Langley Blaze in convincing fashion, 13-1.
With a direct berth into Championship Sunday on the line Friday evening, Abbotsford squared off against the Victoria Eagles. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Eagles claimed a 6-4 victory, handing the Cardinals their first loss of the tournament and forcing them down the challenging path through the elimination bracket.
Facing elimination on Saturday, the Cardinals met the Langley Blaze for the second time in the tournament. Abbotsford delivered another outstanding performance, shutting out the Blaze 4-0 to advance to Championship Sunday for a rematch with the Eagles.
With Victoria sitting undefeated in the championship round, the Cardinals needed to defeat the Eagles twice to claim the provincial title.
In the opening game Sunday morning, Abbotsford received one of the tournament's most memorable performances from Dylan De Meyer. The Cardinals right-hander threw a no-hitter, leading his club to a 3-0 victory and forcing a winner-take-all championship game.
In the last game of the tournament, the Cardinals rose to the occasion, defeating the Eagles 12-1 to complete an impressive championship run and secure the 2026 BCPBL Premier Provincial Championship.
