BCPBL Mourns the Passing of John Leonard

The PBL would like to acknowledge the sudden passing of our friend and colleague, John Leonard.

John was a talented athlete who was originally from Ontario, but relocated to British Columbia to join the National Baseball Institute managed by the North Shore Twins legendary John Haar in 1987.

John proudly represented Canada as a member of the National Team, competing at the 1987 Pan American Games, the 1996 Goodwill Games and the 1990 Baseball World Cup.

Following his playing career, John remained committed to the game through coaching.

In recent years, he became a respected umpire, officiating countless games, including many within our own BC Premier Baseball League across all three of our divisions.

John’s passion for baseball, dedication to the sport and service to our baseball community left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. John is survived by his wife Yvonne and sons Dylan and Kole.

Please take time to consciously pay tribute to John’s life and recognize his many contributions to our sport and the PBL - always remember the legacy John Leonard leaves behind.
